The Mystery of Capricorn with astrologer Lily Hussey

Plus your weekly forecast for Jan. 13-19, 2025

Hey friends and cycle-lovers,

Welcome to your weekly forecast for January 13th-19th, 2025. We begin the week with a full moon in Cancer, and end the week with the sun’s ingress into Aquarius, leaving the sea-goat’s mountain for more airy & futuristic pastures.

In this week’s episode, I was honored to have as my guest Lily Hussey, an astrologer, jeweler, artist, and all-around magical baddie. Lily has a Pisces sun and a major stellium of planets in Capricorn, so I thought she was the perfect person to chat with as the North Node just entered Pisces and we’re wrapping up Capricorn season. Her work-in both astrology and art- is so stunning, I highly recommend checking out her Substack The Stellar Situation and her ritual adornments and other offerings at goodhussey.com.

I’ll start off this episode with your weekly forecast, and/or you can skip ahead to the convo with Lily at timestamp 41:10!

Forecast TL;DR: This week the sun is continuing her transit through the Human Design Gate of Mystery (Gate 61), and the full moon is happening on the opposite side of the sky in the Gate of Details (Gate 62).

On Friday, the sun leaves the great mystery and travels into Gate 60, the Gate of Acceptance (aka “Limitation”). This is the gate that makes an energetic bridge between Capricorn and Aquarius, and is the gate where Pluto is currently hanging out (until late January). The sun will make a conjunction with the Lord of the Underworld in this Gate on Monday (yep, that’s the US Presidential Inauguration day…), so it’s a good one to learn a little more about and keep on your radar.

Let’s first dive into the Cancer full moon and the Cap/Aquarius cusp Gate of Accepting Limitations…. and then dive into the deep and mysterious nature of Capricorn with the fabulous Lily Hussey!

This week’s highlights:

  • Monday, January 13: Full moon in Cancer (in Gate 62, the Gate of Details, across the sky from the sun in Gate 61, the Gate of Mystery)

  • Sunday, January 19: The sun enters Aquarius

  • Human Design/I’Ching:

    • Last Saturday thru Thursday: Gate 61: The Gate of Mystery

    • Friday-next Tuesday: Gate 60: The Gate of Acceptance of Limitations

This week’s themes:

  • A conscious desire to embrace the mystery meets an embodied desire to understand the details

  • Recognizing and acknowledging our limitations helps us when we are ready to transmute beyond them

  • Flickers of energy to move beyond our sovereign winter selves and begin the process of reintegration with the larger interconnected world

Monday: It’s a Full Moon in Cancer…. in the Gate of Details (Gate 62)

Opposite from the Capricorn sun in the Gate of Mystery, the full moon in Cancer shines bright in the sky in the Cancer Gate of Details.

This full moon, enhanced by the intensity of Mars retrograde in the same sign, evokes a strong sense of nurturing and emotional introspection. Cancer embodies a deep, almost maternal care, drawing out our innate desire to protect and nurture ourselves and others. When the moon is full and glowing in Cancer, we're pulled to examine the delicate balance of our emotional world.

Located in Human Design Gate 62 (Details), this period serves as a reminder of the importance of attention to the details of the present moment and tending to them with care, not just in our relationships but in how we treat ourselves. It's a time to retreat into the comfort of our homes and give attention to the subtle yet crucial elements of our inner lives, much like how the warmth and growth of summer plants are nurtured by Cancer's meticulous care.

Mars being retrograde in Cancer near this full moon adds another layer of complexity—it's a time where forward movement feels like swimming upstream. Traditional astrology notes that Mars is "in fall" in Cancer, highlighting a tension between the assertive, action-oriented nature of Mars and Cancer's emotional, nurturing essence. This resonates with me profoundly; it's as though we're called to act but must do so with empathy and emotional insight, rather than sheer force.

I can sense the inherent tension of this astrological period—a need to feel deeply cared for while also confronting the discomforts and truths Mars retrograde unveils. Yet, this Full Moon illuminates an opportunity: to embrace the gentle strength of Cancer's nurturing energy while being mindful of the intricate, sometimes challenging emotions Mars retrograde stirs.

While Cancer invites us to care and nurture, its opposite sign, Capricorn, pushes us to build toward the future with steadfast ambition. Both are “parental” signs in this way, providing care in different ways. This dichotomy offers a dynamic interplay of energies, encouraging us to balance our emotional care with the structured, long-term care that Capricorn represents.

Full Moons have always marked a culmination point, a time to reflect on what has grown since the new moon. Under the light of the Full Moon in Cancer, I am reminded of my personal experiences—my partner Jackson's detailed attention to his plants, reflecting Cancer's nurturing qualities, and my own need to find warmth and care during emotionally turbulent times.

This Cancer Full Moon, especially with Mars retrograde's influence, prompts us to dive deep into our emotional reservoirs, seeking the mystery and clarity within. It encourages us to embrace the unknown and nurture our inner world amid external chaos. It's an invitation to balance the tenderness of Cancer's care with the structural ambition of Capricorn, recognizing that both energies are necessary for true growth and transformation.

In this period, I find solace in the simplicity of self-care practices like breathwork and walking, grounding in Cancer's emotional essence while preparing for the innovative potential that future astrological transitions promise. It’s a time to honor our feelings, care for our inner landscape, and prepare for the new cycles ahead, always remembering that true growth comes from understanding and nurturing our emotional roots.

The sun will remain in the Gate of Mystery from Monday-Thursday this week- listen to last week’s forecast for a deeper dive into that gate!

Friday thru next Tuesday: The Gate of Acceptance of Limitations (Gate 60) is the bridge between Capricorn and Aquarius

Gate 60 lives in the Root Center, carrying the energy of limitation and the potential for transformation. This gate pulses with the pressure to embrace what is finite and imperfect in life, while finding the strength to work within boundaries and restrictions. Gate 60 invites us to accept the natural rhythms of life—both its highs and its pauses—and trust in the potential for growth within those cycles.

The energy of Gate 60 is about learning to work with limitations instead of resisting them. These limitations could be external circumstances, personal challenges, or the passage of time. While the energy can feel frustrating, especially when faced with delays or constraints, it also provides a unique opportunity: within every boundary lies the seed of innovation and transformation.

When used well, Gate 60 becomes a powerful source of resilience and acceptance. It teaches us that limitations are not obstacles—they are catalysts for evolution and creativity.

In the Gene Keys…

In the Gene Keys, the shadow of 60 is Limitation, the Gift is Realism, and the Siddhi is Justice.

  • Shadow (Limitation): At the shadow frequency, Gate 60 can manifest as frustration, resistance, or a feeling of being trapped. There’s a tendency to fight against limitations, seeing them as barriers instead of opportunities. This energy can feel like you're hitting a wall and struggling to break free.

  • Gift (Realism): When you embrace limitations with grace, the energy shifts. You learn to see reality clearly, finding creative and practical ways to work within the boundaries you face. Realism is not about giving up—it’s about finding the beauty and potential in what is.

  • Siddhi (Justice): At its highest expression, Gate 60 transcends personal frustration and taps into a universal sense of balance. Justice is the recognition that everything happens for a reason and that there is perfection even within limitation. It’s a profound acceptance of life’s natural rhythms.

In the I’Ching…

Hexagram 60 in the I’Ching is known as “Limitation.” This hexagram speaks to the necessity of boundaries and structure in life. It teaches that freedom comes not from breaking all limits but from understanding them and using them to our advantage. Limitations, when embraced, create a framework within which growth and transformation can occur.

The I’Ching reminds us that limitations are not here to restrict us—they are here to teach us patience, discipline, and trust in life’s unfolding.

How to Work With Gate 60

  • Embrace Limitations: Instead of fighting against restrictions, ask how you can grow within them. Acceptance doesn’t mean giving up—it means finding power within the present moment.

  • Trust the Pause: Not everything happens on your timeline. Gate 60 reminds us to honor the pauses in life as much as the action. The waiting is part of the process.

  • Channel Creativity: Boundaries can spark innovation. Use the energy of Gate 60 to find creative solutions and new perspectives that emerge only because of the limits you face.

Gate 60 calls us to accept the natural flow of life, including its pauses and limitations. When we stop resisting and start working with the energy of what is, we find strength, clarity, and the power to transform. This gate reminds us that every boundary has the potential to become a bridge to something greater.
